Kevin Sherrill, Head Instructor

Head Instructor

Kevin Sherrill

Kevin started wrestling when he was 13. He won Georgia High School State and earned High School All-American honors, then took a scholarship to wrestle at the University of Northern Iowa — one of the country's storied NCAA Division I programs.

After college he came back home to coach the same youth wrestling program he grew up in. He took his kids to their first youth state championships, and within three years the club had state champions in every age division through high school and was ranked #3 in the country by Intermat. He trained and competed in Judo through that stretch too.

He eventually left coaching, moved into the city, and started training for MMA and competing in jiu-jitsu. One amateur MMA fight and a rapidly climbing professional grappling career later, the jiu-jitsu took over. Kevin is a competing black belt, a 5x veteran of the Professional Grappling Federation — Individual Finalist and Team Champion in Season 3 — and the first-ever 100 Man Jiu-Jitsu Battle Royale Champion. He has submission wins over five black belt competitors ranked in the top 30 in the world, and captained his Midwest Finishers 3v3 squad ("Kevin and the Kevinettes") to a tournament title.

On the MMA side, Kevin as a head coach has a 38-6 record — including 18 amateur and professional title fights, several fight-night finish bonuses, and a UFC Performance of the Night bonus by Cody Durden. He has trained six UFC fighters and cornered one on the UFC stage.

Teaching philosophy in his own words: "Martial arts is defined almost entirely by the results — did you succeed or fail at your goals? Everything reduces down from that question. What sets me apart is that I was never an athlete who found immediate success. I'm super familiar with the uphill battle of trying to do something intimidating that you're not sure you can do. It makes it easier for me to relate to the people in the room who are having the hardest time."

What he coaches best: guard retention, submissions from bottom, pressure passing, wrestling entries into jiu-jitsu, and the defensive fundamentals that keep you training for 20 years without wrecking your body.

Angel Jackson, General Manager

General Manager

Angel Jackson

Angel runs the front of the house — trial scheduling, memberships, retail, and the person you'll actually meet on your first day. If it's not on the mat, Angel probably owns it.

The right person to ask about billing, family plans, injury pauses, kids programs, and everything else that isn't "how do I finish this triangle." But if you were to ask him that, he can show you.
